Petition to Consolidate Yasmin/Yaz Lawsuits Filed

A petition was filed on July 24, 2009 to consolidate the Yasmin/Yaz lawsuits into an MDL in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. The motion was filed with the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation in Washington, D.C.

The Yasmin/Yaz lawsuits involve Plaintiffs who have suffered injuries, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, seizures, gall bladder injuries, and death after using the birth control pills.

First Fosamax Trial to Begin in August

The first "bellwether" trial in the Fosamax MDL is set to begin on August 11, 2009. The first Fosamax case to be tried was filed by Shirley Boyles who took the drug for over 9 years for treatment of osteoporosis. The lawsuit alleges she developed osteonecrosis of the jaw as a side effect of her Fosamax use.

The Fosamax lawsuits, over 600, have been consolidated in the the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The next case is set for trial in December.
